Whistler Mountain, located just outside of Vancouver, B.C. is one of my favourite places in the world! Besides snow sports in the winter and mountain biking in the summer there are many things to do in Whistler regardless of the season. Here are five of my favourites.
Ketel One Ice Room
If you like vodka, or are not adverse to drinking four shots in fifteen minutes, the Ketel One Ice Room is the place for you. Situated in the Listel Hotel, the Ice Room is one of the culinary experiences that the Bearfoot Bistro offers. For $62 per person (tax and tip included) you have access to the world's coldest vodka tasting room (-32C) and more than 50 different vodkas from around the world. Don't worry about bringing your winter coat, the Ice Room provides heavy goose-down parkas.
Forged Axe
Ax throwing at the Forged Axe is definitely one of the most fun things to do in Whistler. An instructor will introduce you to the sport, giving you tips and watching as you throw axes at a target (kind of like darts). You can drop in or book for an hour for around $40 a person. Great activity to do as a group (stag or stagette), there is even a league! I would suggests doing it before you go for drinks in the Ketel Room:)
Snow Shoeing
This is becoming one of the hottest sports among Vancouverites as you can do it on all of the local mountains. Because of all the snow Whistler gets, you can snowshoe for free (if you have your own snowshoes or rent a pair from a local sporting goods store) on one of the trails around the Whistler Village area like Lost Lagoon or the Whistler Golf Course. If you want to pay, there are a plethora of trail options, check out snowshoeing in Olympic Park. There are over 40 km of trails as well as dog-friendly options. Tickets are around $20 per person. You can rent snowshoes at the Day Lodge as well as grabbing a healthy lunch from the cafe.
The Cloudraker Skybridge
The Peak to Peak Express Chair that is included in your mountain ski ticket is also open during the summer months. The suspension bridge is located a short hike up from the Roundhouse Lodge. Not for those scared of heights, the Cloudraker Skybridge crosses the Whistler bowl and spans 130m from Whistler Peak to the West Ridge and provides 360 degree views.
Scandinave Spa Whistler
A four season treat, the Scandinave Spa is located just outside Whistler village nestled in a peaceful setting in the forest. The spa's specialty is hydrotherapy which consists of a series of hot, cold and relaxation installations. Rates start at $72 for a day pass. Stay as long as you like and book a massage or have a meal in the bistro in your fluffy white robe. This is an excellent place to go alone (they discourage talking to promote a peaceful environment anyways), as a couple or as a girls' weekend away.
