Living in the Vancouver area, I am no stranger to the charms and attractions of Whistler, BC, having grown up visiting frequently in both the Winter and Summer seasons. Recently, however, I had the chance to get away for the weekend with a friend for a girls' weekend. Here are some of the must-do's if you're planning your own girl's getaway.
Scandinave Spa
My friend and I had been wanting to try out this place for awhile. The Scandinave Spa is located just a few minutes drive outside of Whistler, nestled in the forest in a beautiful, natural setting. The spa has three different stations (hot, cold, relax) and they suggest doing the routine several times. It cost around $80 to use the baths (and rent a robe) but you could easily spend a couple of hours. There's a Bistro offering healthy fare if you get hungry. Massages and packages are available - check out the hotels that offer deals with the spa. The spa rules are no talking and no cell phones so the vibe is very peaceful and chill. I think summer is the best season to visit because you can sit in the sun or a hammock while you relax. You probably will fall asleep at some point! Bring your own water bottle with you as the only water available at the pools is a water fountain.
Shopping in Whistler Village
Whistler village is used to hosting world-class events so of course it offers world class shopping! Many of the upscale hotels include luxury boutiques that sell designer clothes or jewelry and this is the place to shop for winter sports equipment and clothing. Make sure you check out Vancouver based Lululemon, for the most fashionable yoga and running gear. The Oracle, is a fun place to go for hippy-chic clothes, crystals and even a psychic reading!
Drinks at the Fairmont Hotel
The Fairmont Hotel is very posh and if you can't afford to stay there, at least you can go for drinks in the richly furnished lounge and listen to live music. A specially crafted cocktail will set you back about $18 but it's worth it for the ambiance. And you might run into a famous actor, musician or athlete when you're there.
Outdoor Activities
What's a better way to bond than to take part in an adrenaline raising outdoor activity together? The Adventure Group in Whistler can hook you up with your choice from river rafting to ziplining. You can join groups of varying levels to suit your own comfort zone. The instructors are well qualified, personable and will probably have an Australian accent.
