Fort Langley is known as both as a significant historical site, dating back to the Canadian Fur Trade, as well as an enjoyable day trip destination, a short 45 minute drive from Vancouver, B.C. One great thing about Fort Langley is that you can park once (for free) and spend the rest of the day walking to various shops, restaurants and attractions.
Breakfast
Start the day out by visiting Wendel`s Bookstore and Cafe. This independent bookstore offers a selection of bestsellers, non-fiction and children's books as well as delicious, hand-crafted food and drinks. The Avocado Benny is my favourite for breakfast. Warning that weekends are busy at the cafe so be prepared to wait or come before noon.
Fort Langley Tour
The Fort Langley National Historic Site recreates the buildings and activities of B.C.'s first settlement during the 1800's. The interactive tour will introduce you the fur trading activities of the Hudson's Bay Company and the local First Nations people. If you grew up in B.C. like me, you probably learned all about the fur trade in Social Studies class. But it is interesting to see history brought to life and if you are not from the area, it will give you a new perspective on Canada.
Afternoon Tea
The Little White House is my absolute favourite place to go for afternoon tea in Fort Langley. The Salon Cafe has a Parisian flair and in addition to the usual home made scones and macarons (delicious!) there are also more substantial meal items as well as vegan choices.
After tea, you can begin your afternoon of shopping at The Little White House. Each room in the old character home is thematically decorated with clothing, jewelry and household items again in a French theme. The pallet is black, grey, and white and all items have been thoughtfully chosen by the owner on frequent trips to Paris. (Check out her instagram page @littlewhitehouseco).

Next, head across the parking lot to clothing boutique Bella & Wren. This store has been carefully curated for jewelry, accessories and clothing. It features such brands as Tocca, Matt&Nat, Gentle Fawn and many others.
As you head towards the train tracks, stop in at TAP (True Aromatherapy Products). You will be drawn in by the intoxicating scent of diffuser oils and freshly brewed tea. Stock up on crystals, gemstone jewelry, bath products and everything else to get your chakras in order. TAP also offers spa services like massage, facials and reiki. I have personally experienced these and they have the best treatment rooms - warm, low-lit, and soothing.
Across the street is the a store that you will want to explore if, like me, you are a Francophile. Farmhouse in Provence Kitchen & Home curates a collection of decorative home and beauty items, all with a French flare.
Fort Langley is known for its abundance of antique stores. Check them out as you walk down Glover Road. You will probably recognize the bright yellow Fort Langley Community Hall which has been featured in many movies. In the Village Antique Mall, individual dealers have set up shop in every corner of the large building and offer everything from old records and books to jewelry and First Nations artwork.
Dinner
Fort Langley Community Hall
Beatniks Bistro is a hip alternative. The interior of the restaurant has a brick old library vibe (vintage card catalogue wallpaper!). The gnocchi is amazing and the Chai Tea latte is probably the yummiest drink you will ever have.
The Fort Pub and Grill offers classic pub fare and interior (pool tables and Keno and Bingo games). I don't know if gastro-pub is a thing but the farmer's mac and cheese is easily five star gourmet.
Events and More Information
Fort Langley has a variety of events throughout the year, ranging from parades to festivals. The best way to keep abreast of the happenings is to check out the Fort Langley Tourism site for the most up to date information of what is going on.
